So Many Places To Go…

Swimming, Dancing, Chess, Legos, Book Clubs… These are just a few activities we parents hunt down to spread our childrens’ horizons and in some cases leverage to get more work done.  In this blogging sphere you are invited to write about a place you’ve come across and hopefully attended locally (but attending is not a must-sharing the information is the key).  You also have the option of sending me an email or Facebook message regarding a place you’d like to share and I will post the information.   Please include the official webpage or some source for other interested parents to check out the activity as well.  And yes, it must have children participation, but let us know about places like BMX racing in Hobart and Portage, that allow parents to join in the fun.

Now, we’re all adults right? SO when someone posts in this corner of My Sable Village blog world keep in mind that they are talking from their experience and perspective.  If you attend the event and you have a very different perspective to share please do so with the utmost respect.  Lead with your truth mixed in with a good dose of love and all will be well in My Sable Village.

So, draft your post, send it to me and we’ll take it from there! Hopefully this will be helpful for all of us to spend our time and money smarter.

Love,

Glenda♥My Sable Village

Calendars, Calendars, Calendars

*Hujambo My Sable Village,

I thought I’d do a quick navigation post to help you understand the calendars posted on our site.  The “Sable Upcoming Events” list and the “Sable Activities Calendar” on the sidebar  is designated strictly for our co-op activities, information and events.

The “Events and Activities Around the  Regional” list and calendar in the footer are full of events around our region that you and/or your family may want to attend.  If you would like to access the full calendar just double-click on any event, then click on the “more details” link OR click on the +Google Calendar link in the bottom right corner.  Hopefully, (fingers and toes crossed) the full calendar will pop up.  Once you’re looking at the larger calendar you will see that it’s color coded as follows:

Blue entries are events that may be perfect for the whole family or you can bring the family along for the event.

Red entries are events that are adult only so find that babysitter and go have a great time!

Purple entries are those events specifically for homeschoolers.

PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES IN THE CALENDARS.  If for some reason something isn’t posted correctly send me an email (sablecommunity2018@gmail.com) and I will deal with it as soon as I can.

I hope this was helpful.  If there is additional information that I missed please share.

Love,

Glenda♥My Sable Village

*Hujambo is swahili for hello

It would be easy…

It would be so easy for me to create a new business, along with a nonprofit, websites and numerous new tasks for myself with a single audience in mind (women with lives just like my own).  But that’s not me.  I grow when I’m surrounded by diversity in all forms.   I believe that my children are also stronger within by interacting with children with stories that are different from their own.   The one thing I do seek out from my parent friends is that they are trying to evolve and grow into better parents and that they don’t lead with destructive judgement of other parents.   The parent struggle is real enough, but let’s face facts; the black parent struggle is real peppered with mental exhaustion about race, history, the future, politics, etc.

Feeding my soul with healthy doses of good peoples has been a complex, lifelong journey.  So as I sit and reflect my Sable people, it’s time to get moving to create a dynamic, inspired group for ourselves and our children.  I see all the intersections of  parents crossing and being positively affected by this website and meet-ups.   I see the struggles and triumphs that so many parents within my communities tackle with 2 parts fire and 1 part fumes (some days in reverse) being shared, supported, advised and celebrated.

For all the reasons I could list for this website, helping us all feel supported as parents is the root of the root.  I homeschool my amazing four sons and I’ve made all kinds of mistakes.  I had my older two in public school and watch mistakes happen to them.  Parenting isn’t a narrow road traveled; rather it ebbs, it flows and it can also change directions.  There are so many good parents of all situations to lend a quick word or have a moment out to get or give that needed support to and from the village.

To my Sable Village I salute the givings you shall bring and I pray over the givings you shall receive.

Love
